Ryan's 3-run homer sends Lions to MIAA baseball title
KANSAS CITY , Kan. -- Behind two separate two-out rallies, the Missouri Southern baseball team has won the 2013 MIAA Baseball Championship defeating fifth-ranked Missouri Western, 6-3, Saturday on a walk-off three-run home run from Sam Ryan.
Southern (34-20) wins its first MIAA title since the 1992 season and the Lions are dancing for the first time since the 2001 season when the Lions made the South Central Regional in Warrensburg.
Baseball Gorillas beat UCM in 10, advance in MIAA postseason
HAYS, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team plated a pair of runs in the top of the 10th inning to claim a 9-7 victory over seventh-ranked University of Central Missouri in the third and deciding game of a first round MIAA Tournament series Sunday (May 5) at Larks Park.
The win sends the Gorillas (28-22) to the final four of the MIAA Tournament at Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan., while the Mules (35-11) must now wait for NCAA regional fields to be announced.
Soles helps PSU men win MIAA outdoor track title
HAYS, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State University men's outdoor track & field team used a balanced scoring attack to grab an early lead Saturday and ride it to a double-digit victory Sunday (May 5), claiming the school's second straight MIAA Outdoor Championship.
The Pittsburg State University women's outdoor track & field team compiled 108 points to finish second in their team standings, well behind champion Lincoln's total of 217.
The Gorilla men compiled 145 points in the meet, besting second place Missouri Southern (134.5) by 10.5 points. Pitt State captured the program's ninth MIAA title.
