Barto's bombs help Team KLKC boys to All-Star hoop victory

Blake Barto-Frontenac HSPITTSBURG, Kan. -- Team KLKC's Blake Barto hit four first-half three-pointers, including a pair during a 16-0 run as his squad went on to a 115-88 victory over Team KSEK in the seventh annual KSEK/KLKC Via Christi All-Star Boys Basketball All-Star Game Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Colgan Fieldhouse.

Barto, a forward who was not known for his perimeter game as a member of the Frontenac Raiders during his high school career, would finish with five treys and 17 points to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the contest.

Team KSEK girls hold off rally to win All-Star Basketball Game

Lizzy_Willis-Pittsburg HSPITTSBURG, Kan. -- Team KSEK held off a second-half rally to claim a 65-60 victory over Team KLKC in the seventh annual KSEK/KLKC Via Christi High School Girls Basketball All-Star Game Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Colgan Fieldhouse.

During halftime, Team KSEK's Michaela O'Brien of Labette County defeated Bethany Barlow of Caney Valley, 7-5, in a shoot-off to take the annual three-point shooting contest title. Both players were 9-of-20 in the first round to force the extra round.

Rosters set for KSEK/KLKC Via Christi All-Star Basketball Games

All-Star Game logoPITTSBURG, Kan. -- The rosters have been finalized for the seventh annual KSEK/KLKC Via Christi All-Star Basketball Games, which will be played Sunday, April 7 at St. Mary’s-Colgan Fieldhouse in Pittsburg.

The girls’ All-Star match-up between Team KSEK and Team KLKC will begin the day at 1 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow immediately after. Also taking place will be 3-point shootouts for both girls and boys along with a boys slam dunk contest.

The Ticket's Amershek honored with KWCA media award

Aaron Amershek-KSEKTOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ticket -- 99.1 ESPN Radio's Aaron Amershek was honored for his coverage of high school wrestling when the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association recognized him with one of its 2012-13 Media of the Year Awards.

Amershek has covered the Class 4A Regional and State Championships for The Ticket the past two seasons, and the years before that the same meets for Class 5A -- primarily following the Pittsburg Purple Dragons.
