Southern softball earns split with No. 14 Fort Hays State
HAYS, Kan.. -- Behind 13 hits from the Lions offense, the Missouri Southern softball team held off a late rally from 14th-ranked Fort Hays State to win game two of a MIAA doubleheader 9-8 Friday afternoon, splitting the pair of games after falling 5-0 in game one.
The Lions (20-20, 7-11 MIAA) would be unable to get a hit in game one as the Tigers' (34-6, 14-2) senior pitcher Maddie Holub would throw her second consecutive perfect game -- retiring all 21 Lions batters she faced. Striking out 14 batters, it was Holub's fourth career complete game no-hitter.
Jayhawk, Iowa circuits to enter football scheduling pact
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) are pleased to announce that they have agreed, in principle, to a football scheduling agreement.
The initial agreement will be for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but both entities envision the agreement evolving into a long-term alliance.
Winning streak ends at 13 for baseball Lions as ESU takes two
EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern State University baseball team saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end Thursday afternoon as the Lions dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Emporia State -- losing 5-4 in game one and 7-3 in game two.
Southern (24-13, 18-11 MIAA) went down 3-0 after the first, but the Lions added a run in the second and three more in the third to go ahead 4-3 after three innings in game one. Shaun Hoover picked up an RBI in the second, scoring Will Wagner and Wagner added to the lead in the third with a three-run home run, his fourth of the season.
