Solid pitching, timely hitting help PSU baseball sweep Truman
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team got solid starting pitching outings from George Brandecker and Cody Wren and the Gorillas delivered timely hits in a doubleheader sweep of Truman Friday (Mar. 29) at Al Ortolani Field.
Pitt State (16-10, 13-9 MIAA) scored four runs in the fourth inning in the opener to claim a 4-1 victory over Truman (6-20, 6-19 MIAA) and the Gorillas followed a similar script in the nightcap, breaking open a 2-1 game with five runs in the fourth en route to a 7-1 win.
Lions rally twice for doubleheader baseball sweep of Bearcats
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team picked up a pair of come-from-behind wins Friday as the Lions defeated Northwest Missouri 4-2 and 4-3 in MIAA action.
The Lions (18-11, 14-9 MIAA) won their seventh game in a row and 10th in the last 11 games.
Both starters for the the Lions went the distance as Brett Abell threw all nine innings in game one and Ryan Bates went all seven in game two.
Gorillas drop softball doubleheader to Northwest
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pittsburg State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Northwest Missouri, 3-2 and 4-2, on Friday (March 29) afternoon at the PSU Softball Complex.
In game one, the Gorillas outhit the Bearcats, 9-6, and led 2-0 up until the seventh inning, Four of the six Bearcats hits came in the seventh, helping them to the win.
